Raxio Data Centre takes part in The Digital Security Conference

Under the Theme ‘Exploring the Influence of the 4th Industrial Revolution on Privacy, Security & Freedom’ the Digital Security Conference organized by the Defender’s Protection Initiative took place on 14th February 2020.

The conference, hosted at the Kampala Serena Conference Centre, highlighted the trends and solutions towards addressing violence online, hate speech and freedom of expression.

It also discussed the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies on the future of digital security, privacy and security in general.

Finally, it unmasked the impact of the new data protection and privacy law in relation to the proliferation of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies.

Raxio Data Centre was a part of the success of this conference; Mr. James Byaruhanga – the General Manager – was part of  the  panel that discussed #4IR Technologies, Big Data, Block Chain & Artificial Intelligence and its impact on security, privacy, rights and freedoms.

One of the things that Mr. James Byaruhanga highlighted was the fact that internet users leave behind a lot of personal data unknowingly; for example logging onto public internet (Wi-Fi) and accepting cookies on a number of websites visited.

This was a dangerous habit as (a) cookies can be used to monitor your use of the internet and (b) information about you can be easily accessed hence jeopardizing our own privacy and security.

The panelists also cautioned internet users  to always find out how much personal data they are sharing or giving out. One of the key issues of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies is that it is data hungry, thus the need for a strong frame that safeguards the information shared by users.

Mr. Yona Wanjala, the team leader of the Defender’s Protection Initiative emphasized the need for key stakeholders to assess the risk and impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) on privacy, security and freedom and partner solutions.
