Happy world Environment Day 2020 from Raxio Data Centre

World Environment Day [WED] was established by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 1972 on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, resulting from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment.

Two years later, in 1974, the first WED was held with the theme “Only One Earth”. Since then, WED has been held each year on June 5.

It is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.

WED promotes ways to improve the Earth’s environment, such as conserving forests. This year the theme of World Environment Day 2020 is “Celebrate Biodiversity”.

Major components of the environment include – Natural Components like Land (Lithosphere), Water (Hydrosphere), Air (Atmosphere), Living things (Organism) and Human-made components like buildings, parks, bridge, roads and industries amongst others.

Whereas the standard data centre consumes lots of electricity and produces an intense amount of heat, Raxio Data Centre is proud to be promoting the green agenda. How?

Raxio Data Centre has been designed and built to the highest standards of international data centre’s. The design does not only ensure full redundancy and resilience of the equipment to guarantee maximum uptime, but also incorporates the latest technologies, materials and design principles in energy efficiency.

This ensures that our facilities are more energy-efficient and sustainable in the long-term. Energy efficiency has always been one of the foundational principles of our design since it couples profound respect for environmental sustainability with lower operating costs.

This principle has been applied across multiple areas during the design and build process, from equipment choice to material selection. Our choice of indirect evaporative cooling technology, as an example, reduces power consumption by more than 70% compared to traditional (compression based) cooling technologies.

The site location also ensures it is almost entirely powered by electricity generated from renewable, hydro-electric sources. The result is a standard-setting facility in the region, only comparable to some of the most efficient facilities globally when measured on environmental metrics and power usage effectiveness (PUE) metrics.

Raxio Data Centre is certified by the National Environment Management Authority of Uganda (NEMA), a semi-autonomous government agency established in May 1995 under the National Environment Act.

NEMA is responsible for the monitoring, coordinating, supervising and regulating the natural environment and the environmental policy of Uganda.

Raxio Data Centre has for a long time worked closely with NEMA to ensure that our construction is in adherence and accordance with the national environmental policies, regulations, laws, guidelines and standards.

We wish all our clients, stakeholders and the general public a Happy Environment Day 2020
