Empowering Girls in Mozambique: Days for Girls Delivers 200 Menstrual Kits
Promoting Menstrual Health and Dignity: Days for Girls Delivers 200 Kits in Mozambique
In May 2024, Days for Girls (DfG) København Team made a significant impact in Mozambique through the delivery of 200 reusable DfG Menstrual Kits. This distribution, led by Thea Vieira, chairman of DfG København Team, went beyond simply delivering kits—it provided critical menstrual health education and self-defense training to local girls.
In collaboration with the NGO Fraternidade sem Fronteiras, the event took place from May 13th to May 17th, 2024. Fraternidade sem Fronteiras played a key role in supporting the logistics and connecting us with young girls in the community. Their ongoing work in Mozambique to support local communities enabled us to successfully reach and engage with those in need.
The kits, a sustainable and washable solution to menstrual management, aim to empower girls by giving them the tools they need to manage menstruation with dignity. In many communities, girls miss school during their periods due to a lack of proper menstrual supplies, which negatively affects their education and future opportunities. By providing these kits, Days for Girls is helping break this cycle of lost education and stigma.
A vital part of this effort is our team of dedicated volunteers who meet monthly to produce the kits. From preparing, cutting, and sewing all the pieces, our volunteers pay meticulous attention to detail to ensure each kit is durable and efficient. Their hard work and commitment ensure that the girls who receive the kits have a high-quality and durable product.
“These moments are incredibly special for us,” said Vieira. “Seeing the girls’ confidence grow as they learn how to manage their periods safely and sustainably is a reminder of why we do this work.”
The distribution was supported by Raxio Group & Meridiam, whose funding helped make the production of the kits and distribution a reality. “We are incredibly proud tobe part of this project, that makes a meaningful difference in the daily lives of girls in Mozambique. Contributing to girls’ chances at school improves gender equality and, ultimately increases girls’ and women’s chances to enter the employment market. This initiative aligns perfectly with our core values and our overall ESG strategy, to improve lives in the local communinities in which we operate,” said Robert Mullins, CEO of Raxio Group.
“We are extremely proud to collaborate with Days for Girls and contribute to the empowerment of young girls and the reduction of inequalities. This project truly aligns with our mission to improve the quality of people’s life and our commitments to support social inclusion and gender equality.” Said E.Rotat, CFO of Meridiam
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, local partners, and the funding support received from Raxio Group & Meridiam, Days for Girls continues its mission to break down barriers and ensure that every girl, everywhere, can manage her menstruation with dignity.
